Curly fiber is the sheddings from the hyoallergenic Curly horse. The fiber ranges from fine to coarse just like wool. The staple is short (1-2") so it works best blended/carded with wool, alpaca, llama, mohair or any combination of those fibers. It spins best in a 25% Curly 75% other fiber blend. The finished yarn is a fuzzy eyelash type yarn and is very warm. My favorite is alpaca/Curly/wool blend. Curly that is white or cream takes a dye very well.

Before washing pick vegetable matter by pulling apart fiber and it will fall out. To wash soak in bucket/tub of hot or warm water with Dawn dishwashing detergent. Push down several times in water. Soak for 15-30 min, pull out fiber & squeeze out water, put into bucket again of warm water and soak another 15-30 min. Curly does felt, but not as easily as wool, so watch temperature. To rinse just soak twice in clear warm water, you can add a little vinegar to rinse water, or a little hair conditioner. To dry spread out on towel or screen, keep out of wind if doing outside. Turn to dry underside.

Then card by hand or use drum carder to blend. Then spin into any thickness you desire. It can be used for hats, scarfs, mittens, socks, etc. The coarser fiber is great for outer wear and rugs. Make something unique from a Curly horse. Enjoy!
